Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great break, but now it’s back to school we go! For students who haven’t been a V.I.P. yet, a schedule is going home today, Jan.7th, with only those who haven’t been a Very Important Person.

It’s time to start Study Island. Students have been assigned their first assignments to be completed by next Thursday night. Just a reminder that Study Island is a great tool for review in Social Studies and Science. Students will go to www.studyisland.com, log in, and start their assignments. Students will get a completion grade in Science and Social Studies. They must get a blue ribbon. A blue ribbon is given when students make a certain percentage on the assignments given. On the assignments students have been assigned for this week, they must get at least a 70% to get a ribbon. If your child as any problems getting on study island at home, let me know ASAP! If you do not have a working computer with internet access, the Hendersonville Public Library is a great resource. I have reviewed how to get on study island and given some extra tips that will help them be successful from the start. PLEASE DO NOT wait to the last minute. I always advise students to do it as soon as they can so if there are any problems I can address it. It’s also a great feeling knowing that it’s already done.

Reminder: Students are to bring in a item from the Humane Shelter by Tuesday, Dec.21st. Students are more than welcome to meet me at the Hendersonville Humane Shelter at 12:45 on that Tuesday. I know the people at the humane shelter would love to have the students come by!!!!!!

School is a half day on Dec.21st. We will dismiss at 11:30.

Winter Break is Dec.22nd-Jan.5th. Students return to school on Thursday, Jan.6th.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Now we have about 3 1/2 weeks left before the end of the nine weeks. I know things get crazy around this time of year, but the students need to stay focused.

Future Dates- Explorer Projects were assigned yesterday(Nov.4th) and sent home. These are due on Monday, Nov.22nd.

We had a great 4-H meeting today(Nov.5th)! Our 4-H leader told us we are one of her best classes! Our next 4-H meeting will be on Dec.3rd. Students are to give a one to two minute speech on anything they would like to talk about. The three things the students need to remember are: 1) They have to mention 4-H. 2) It has to be memorized. 3) It has to be at least one minute, no more than two.

We have a very active week coming up next week. Here’s what’s going on:

Friday, Oct.29th- Unit 2 Week 5 Spelling Test, Halloween Parade at 2:15 and Party at 2:45. Students should bring their costumes to change into. Students will be allowed to change around 12:45.

Students were given a Multiplication Facts Practice today. Be sure to look for the results in their Take Home Folders. I will be giving them the same multiplication facts practice as a test in two to three weeks. These were suppose to be memorized last year, but some of the students don’t seem to remember them. Please have them practice the facts they do not have right on the practice that came home on Oct.22. I’m also sending home some extra sheets that you all can use to practice at home until we take the test. Students are given three minutes to complete this. Practice, practice, practice is the key to memorizing.

We started 4-H. As most of you know, this is during our class day. Our next 4-H meeting is November 5th. Students are to complete a 4-H poster. Students were given the requirements on Oct.18. I am asking that all students create a poster. This will count as a participation grade(an easy 100A). If they do not do it, they will get a zero. If your child has lost the directions for poster, let me know ASAP.
